A NEW START

Mystic saw the action unfolding behind his eyes. The vision bathed him with excitement and enthusiasm. His heart pounded joyfully in his chest.

He was helping Xoxo to escape his cage. The door was standing wide open, and Mystic was holding onto Xoxo’s arm, pulling him toward the opening. A shadow of a person in a long white coat floated somewhere behind them, chasing them, but Mystic deftly outran it and pulled Xoxo to safety like a hero.

When the vision faded, Mystic was left with a deep feeling of serenity. Freedom was watching him with her knowing smile.

“You said intuition could communicate with you through images in your head, right?” he asked her suddenly, not wanting to bring up that annoying pipsqueak but unable to help it. He had a feeling that what he had just experienced was a part of it.

“Yes, it can.”

“And how do you know it’s intuition?”

“Because it feels amazing and it feels right,” Freedom said.

“Why didn’t it ever come to me as a vision before?” he asked. “Why did it always show up as a voice and scare me half to death?”

“It already has,” Freedom said, laughing. “When you came up with the idea to take Tiny to your home, that was your intuition trying to communicate with you. But you didn’t always see it or pay attention to it, so it had to get your attention in other ways.”

This was a surprise to Mystic. He had thought that only the voice was his intuition, but if he understood what Freedom was telling him, his intuition was really there all the time. He just didn’t know how to see it.

“What if you had a vision and it made you felt enthused... Would you follow it?”

“How do you think I ended up here?” Freedom laughed.

Mystic smiled at the thought of Freedom having visions about him.

“Just remember to carefully assess how you’re feeling at each moment,” Freedom said. “Your intuition is always speaking to you.”

Hearing Freedom endorse his decision to follow his intuition made Mystic ecstatic. He couldn’t believe it. Only a few hours ago, all he had wanted was to go back to sleep and die. Now he was excited at the idea of going to help Xoxo.

Mystic explained his vision to Freedom (skipping over the part where he had acted like a hero; he didn’t want her to think he was full of himself), to get her opinion on it. He was eager to get going, but at the same time hesitant to trust so fully in something that, until recently, had annoyed him greatly.

Freedom had been enthusiastic about his vision, but she told him something he didn’t quite understand.

“Don’t confuse physical and mental freedom, Mystic,” she warned. Even though he hadn’t fully understood what she meant, he had agreed not to. He was too excited to tackle this new project.

But once again, his stomach put his plans on hold by growling and churning. He had barely asked himself where he could find food this time, when the voice popped up and startled him again.
